| Outside the city limits is beyond the jurisdiction of the Island Police Department -- but within the jurisdiction of the Park Rangers. The city discourages sleeping on the beach but rarely arrests anyone. On the south end, where I live, spring breakers frequently make use of the dunes. I have never seen anyone get hassled there, and you are safe from vehicular traffic (clean up crews, etc.) if you are back far enough from the surf. Sometimes the police will start driving breakers off the beach in the morning, but I have never heard of anyone getting arrested for it. |

Up at the north end of the beach you are probably okay if you sleep in your car. Rangers may bother you if they find you passed out on the sand. If you sleep outside at the north end, I recomend you go up into the dunes. They are quite large up there and no one will find you at night. If you have a tent its even better. Twenty years ago all the breakers erected tents at the north end so often it became known as "tent city." |

Mike McNamara has been representing Island drunks and other assorted miscreants for more years than he cares to remember. If you have a general, spring break -related question of a legal nature, you can e-mail him and - if you ask real nice and attach a photo of a semi-clad large chested babe - you might even get a personal reply. |
Got drunk? Got caught? Call Mike (956-761-7087)-- he won't tell your mama!
